Basic Bros Ryder Cup
3rd Annual · June 25–28, 2026
24 guys. 3 days. 3 courses. One champion team.
Welcome to the most prestigious event in none of our backyards.
- Rules and play are based on 24 players. If necessary, the Founding Bros will adjust by-laws in accordance with growth.
- We will play every third year, out of state. (2026, 29, 32, 35, 38…)
- Location for the out-of-state tournament will be decided on Saturday night before the final round of the current year's tournament. Out-of-state location will be voted on at the conclusion via Forms; specific locations follow the rules below.
- In-state course selection will be voted on after suggestions have been presented. Suggestions are due the last week in July. We vote on August 1st via Google Forms.
- Founding Bros will consider courses in the area and use best judgement (price, location, condition). Starting tees determined after course selection. We try to use 5,500–6,000 yards for a fair playing field.
- Overnight accommodations made by Cody/Ryne — covers Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights, based on prior commitments unless otherwise informed. Thursday rounds are at each player's own expense.
- Each player is responsible for their own meals unless otherwise agreed upon.
- The BBRC/Founding Bros are not responsible for flights or transportation. Those are on each participant.
- All fees are due April 1st of the tournament year.
- $100 initial reservation fee to secure spot for the following year — can be paid at the conclusion of the current year's tournament. Reservation fees cover any advance deposits required.
- You can pay in portions throughout the year. Payment plans are available.
- Fees cover greens fees, shirts, prize fund, and accommodations.
Estimated Costs
- 2026 — $900 (Out of State)
- 2027 — $900
- 2028 — $900
- 2029 — $950 (Out of State)
- You must be paid-in-full to participate unless other arrangements have been made with the Founding Bros.
- Pay via Venmo or Zelle to Cody or Ryne.
- Players must fully commit by February 1st of the following year to allow for alternates and travel plans.
- We play on the weekend after Father's Day each year:
- 2026 – June 25–28 (South Carolina)
- 2027 – June 25–27
- 2028 – June 23–25 (Vote on Out of State Location)
- 2029 – June 22–24 (Out of State)
- 2030 – June 21–23
- Team selections take place at the beginning of March once all handicaps are received. HDCPs are due February 28th and can be adjusted up until the tournament begins. Initial HDCPs are used for draft/tier purposes.
- You must have a USGA Handicap and report it to the Founding Bros by March 1st.
- Captains are responsible for selecting the shirt design for their team. Sizes and design due to Cody/Ryne by March 15th to ensure on-time delivery and embroidery.
54 holes · 3 rounds · 4 events · 3 days of competition
- Teams are comprised of one player from each tier (T1 & T2).
- Handicap = 35% of the combined team total handicap, rounded UP.
- You must take at least 2 drives from each player per 9 holes. Failure = 4-stroke penalty.
- Friday matchups are set before the tournament and included in the program.
- Can be any mix of tiers.
- Scores adjusted based on HDCP.
- Opponents ride in the same cart for integrity purposes.
- Doubles: teams comprised of players from the same tier (T1 vs T1 / T2 vs T2).
- Singles: simultaneous — you play singles vs. the opponent you're lined up with on the scorecard.
- Points awarded for both doubles and singles matches.
Round 2 & 3 matchups assigned Friday and Saturday night after scores are entered. Notifications via Discord or text.
Each player competes in 1 team match (scramble), 2 doubles matches, and 1 singles match.
Ryder Cup Points
- Win — 2 points
- Tie — 1 point each
- Loss — 0 points
- 72 total points available (adjusted based on # of players).
- First team to 36.5 points wins the Basic Bros Ryder Cup.
Tie-Breaker — Putt Off
- Select 3 teammates. Must alternate putts — 1 putt per player.
- 1st putt: 20 ft — most makes wins. Still tied? Move to 2nd putt.
- 2nd putt: 15 ft (if necessary)
- 3rd putt: 10 ft (if necessary)
- Captains are selected prior to the start of the current year's tournament — typically Thursday night or before 1st tee Friday.
- Selections are made by the current year captains. Selected captains must be on opposite teams.
- Winning team's captain gets 1st pick for next year's draft.
- Each player will be a captain — no repeat captains unless special circumstances prevail. A list is maintained by the Founding Bros.
- There is a tier system (T1 & T2) based on total handicap to create a fair playing field.
- Each captain must select an equal number of T1 and T2 players.
- Captains draft players in an alternating snake draft format. Draft takes place no later than the 2nd weekend in March.
- Tournament Program is sent after team selection and matchups are determined by captains. Matches subject to change for injury/emergency.
- We use the Squabbit app for handicap tracking and live scoring during the tournament.
- Handicap determined by USGA Handicap rules — must play and record at least 5 rounds to be eligible. Failure = cannot participate. No refunds unless a qualified replacement is found.
- Highest allowable handicap: 45 (established after 2024 BBRC due to double par rules).
- Double par is the maximum score per hole for scoring purposes. (Example: Par 5 → max score = 10.)
- All rounds/handicaps must be completed by February 28th. Send a screenshot of your current handicap to the Founding Bros for team selection.
- Handicaps can be adjusted after March 1st up until the tournament begins, but will not affect tier ratings.
- Handicaps are always rounded UP to the nearest whole number.
- We make every effort to have an even number of players divisible by 4.
- If the player count is not divisible by 4, the "odd" player(s) will play formats as listed with the following amendments:
- Doubles & Scramble: Use the average of other same-team matches for each hole. Use the best score from that hole. HDCP will also be averaged.
- Stroke Play: No changes.
- Example (10 players): One player from each team plays "by themselves." Their average tier score acts as the 2nd golfer in the group. Best score from each hole wins.
- If a player cannot make it last minute (family emergency, illness) before play begins, their opponents must score within a set number of shots of that player's average score (adjusted with HDCP).
- If a player is injured during a round, an average score is calculated from holes already completed:
- Formula: (Total strokes ÷ holes completed) + 1.5, applied to remaining holes. Round up on halves.
- Example: 40 strokes through 8 holes → 5-stroke avg + 1.5 = 6.5 per remaining hole → 105 total score.
